Toutlet Kasbah 11.27.04

toutlet10.jpg

Toutlet is a magical Berber town in the High Atlas Mountains. Unfortunately the Kasbah is in shambels, it has literally melted from the inhabitants moving out and the rain washing away the mud walls. Kasbahs are Berber towns that are made of mud, pine, and bamboo. The little spanning capability of pine makes the series of spaces tiny and compact.

"The room is the beginning of architecture. It is the place of the mind. You in the room with its dimensions, its structure, its light respond to its character, its spiritual aura, recognizing, that whatever the human proposes and makes, becomes a life."
